Reason, from the Latin ratio, is the tool used for the processing of data, either to understand, calculate or synthesized it.
Reason has no data itself, i.e., it has no a priori or a posteriori synthetic knowledge. It serves only as cryptic and speculative way, to the sensed information of empirical experiences, and to the soul induced information through the revelations of the spirit.
Thus the traditional man has reason as mediator between exoteric and esoteric, i.e., a means of communication between external reality and interior reality. An instrument that allows Man to assume hypothesis, through logical speculation, that resemble more or less the Truth; and (also) to encrypt supra rational revelations, in order to make them accessible to the reason of others empirically.
For the traditional man, Virtue is the foundation of eudaimonia (human flourishing), to participate in Virtue is to resemble Truth, i.e., to approach what is. Eudaimonia is thus a gradual state of being, an ever growing awareness of what is. Being what is, ourselves in a particular way, and God universally.
Therefore the purpose of a traditional life is, initially, becoming increasingly aware of ourselves and God, to finally accomplish union with God (theosis).
This is where reason reveals its utility, for it is the instrument that the will uses to fulfill the human purpose, resembling Truth through logical speculation, and sharing revealed truths in encrypted structures, out of compassion for others, to catalyze their union with Truth.
The Crisis of Reason
In the XVIII century, with the acceptance of reality according to the Newtonian atomic assumption, Man’s view of reason changed. Here, the intellectual communities begin to envision a reality, composed, conducted and explained, exclusively by atomic causality.
This adoption rejects any scientific, philosophical and teleological method, other than the empirical, for to understand reality as material causality (strictly), any non-material reality is an illusion of the human imaginary, and thus any method that does not start in the sensorial is illusive. Turning the soul, the spirit, Virtue, Truth, and God, in fiction.
Reason then ceases to be a way of redemption, creator of social and individual language to eudaimonia, builder of bridges between the gradations of Truth, to in total perversion become the Truth in itself.
No longer being a medium, to become the beginning and the end, all that does not subdue to its limits is either false or illusive, as it is contradictory to the rational language, and if this (reason) is the Truth, everything that is paradoxical with its laws can not participate in It.
And thus all human ethos is lost, union with God is superstition of ignorance, and the awareness of what is is literally within reach. Being consciousness in itself an atomic ratio, and our self being reduced to what reason makes of our sensory experiences.
At this point several proposals arise, for what should be the ethos of the new man, which if it was consistent with “new” reason it would be absolutely none, in the sorts of absolute skepticism or radical nihilism. And although these were proposed and supported by some, none lived faithful to them, since they are literally impossible to be lived.
Thus the new purpose must be an abstraction consistent with the empirical design of reality (universal), but in practice (personal) subjective. Sort of like what serves you best.
We therefore stand before a man that desperately needs new sense in its existence, since in foundation his science makes it impossible.
When looking at the Universe, this man meditates on the new information that everything is matter, and that reason is the only way to define it.
Here reason earns its new utility, becoming the apotheosis of the modern man. In neo-reason Man finds its new purpose, the manipulation of matter to its satisfaction and pleasure, with the subsequent desire of handling it to the point of becoming a sort of immortal demigod.
The dystopias conceived on fiction in the last two centuries have predicted, and well, several consequences of a society with its grounds in a reason submissive to Newtonian science, i.e., all reality being composed, conducted and explained by atomic causality.
The authors of such, painted dark and austere worlds, the populace enslaved by elites, in complete privation of pleasure and free will, silenced and forbidden to think. The omen of the death of the individual.
Well-meaning and correct were the perpetrators of such dystopias, but still naive, but still incipient on their analysis of the consequences of the neo-reason.
The elites do not need to directly force the populace to an austere and silenced life, it just needs to be true to its ethos, use reason as end and manipulate matter to its satisfaction and pleasure, and it will happen naturally via meta scripts.
What’s the point of forcing silence in a dumb man?
This Infantile Coil
The real dystopia reigns today, where Man becomes child, until his fatal destiny.
Without the need to blossom into adulthood by Virtue, of approaching Truth and preparing oneself to the bliss of heaven, the common man despises (t)his adult reality.
Adulthood is the era of moral, where the person becomes aware of the formed self, as active personality. Becoming conscious of its responsibility, as a free being, to act according to its nature.
It’s the age of freedom. Not a physical (Newtonian), reckless and inconsequential one, as understood today. But a true one, a freedom of spirit, that frees the being from material desires and passions, that frees him from fatal destiny, through theosis.
Today, adulthood is despised precisely because of that. The average man doesn’t want to be aware of himself, let alone to find himself responsible for not acting naturally. For him freedom is the opposite of that, it’s to become morally irresponsible and being able to satisfy all material desires and carnal passions.
The average man does not want to be an adult, but an eternal child, who is depressed when its desires aren’t meant and becomes bored when not entertained. This man can not stand himself, literally, constantly needing to project himself in virtual reality to import experiences. The subconscious of this man is filled with these virtual experiences, fantasies of ambivalent moral, while its conscious self is in continual reception, and consequential reactive state, to the virtual stimuli. This man voluntarily surrendered his freedom, to give up adulthood, the creative age, preferring to become a mimetic spectator of virtual reality.
The elites, architects of this reality, just have to gradually increase, like they are doing, the projection childish symbology in entertainment as the moral to follow, for complete infantilization of Man. And I am not talking about something abstract or subtle, all around me I find explicit examples of this. From things as simple as clothing, where parents mingle with children; or in literary, musical and film consumption, where preferences go to juvenile thematics; or in reducing languages to interjections and icons; a fortiori the cause and consequence of this, where communication and social tangling ceases to be based on compassion and love, to become the ability to entertain one another the Cupid of relationships.
This infantile coil began around three hundred years ago with the perversion of reason, and still exists today only by the intention of the elites in perpetuating that same perversion.
To escape this coil you only have to humbly accept the natural role of reason. For in that moment, the gates of more real dimensions than ours will open, light-filled to enlighten our intellects, resurrecting the will to become more aware of ourselves, and fueling the flame of the holy desire of union with God. And thus, inevitably, we’ll become free adults again, filled with compassion and love for thy neighbor.
I close this article with the etymology of the word infant, from the Latin infans, where the composition in – negative, opposition – with fans – ability to speak – creates infans – which is not able to speak.
